Innova Katana Review

The Innova Katana, the newest disc from Innova Golf Discs showed up today.

At first glance it grips like a Boss but the edge is some what  wider than the Innova Boss.

The Katana is built with the flip in mind. According to their website its a recommended downwind driver. The physical characteristics resemble a Boss with the flight characteristics of a Sidewinder on steroids.

When compared to the Boss it has the following rating.

Boss:
Speed: 13
Glide: 15
Turn: -1
Fade: 3

Katana:
Speed: 13
Glide: 15
Turn: -3
Fade: 3

According to the chart she should turn more than the Boss.

I will report back after throwing today!

Likely this disc will not tolerate being leaned on.
So….. three days later and we are BACK.

As predicted the disc will not tolerate being leaned on too heavily. The Katana does not do well in head wind and this to be expected.

I am a average everyday guy and I throw about 350-370 max distance.

On the first flight I simply threw it out hard and flat and it held edge for most of the flight with a slight flip.

As she started to slow down, she came back on the hyzer with a lovely hop at the end.

After numerous throws I have to say this is a finesse disc out of the box.

It flies much like a beat up Boss would. Finesse is what this disc requires, as it seems to be a litlle finicky.  The Boss is far more forgiving than the Katana.   So far I am only using this disc in down wind or now wind. Any head wind and the disc become quite unpredictable.

For me only a flippy Boss is practical to throw.

So this disc would will suit my game nicely.

If you throw very far and hard then this disc might be a flipper for the big guns out there.

The Innova Katana will find a nice home in my disc golf bag!
